VIP - Very Interesting Person - Fi Williams

Posted by Anna Hamill on

VIP - Very Interesting Person is a series where I interview someone who is... very interesting! I want to find out in an informal way who they are and maybe glean some tips and insights from them.

All the Very Interesting People I interview are different - some are small business owners, some are parents, some are young, some are women, some live in the U.K., some are all of these things and some are the opposite of these things!

Today, I am interviewing someone I have never met, but who I catch up with most weeks. Fi is a wife, mother of 3 and a small business owner. The juggle is real for Fi as she runs her business alongside employment and looking after young children. She always has a smile on her face and is full of fun. I’m so thankful I have met her in the Tent Peg Collective this past year, and I’ll hand over to Fi and let her tell you the rest.

Fiona - Tell us a little bit about yourself!

Fiona Williams headshot owner of calligrafi calligraphy small business Hey, I'm Fi, owner of Calligrafi DesignUK. My business is a calligraphy inspired, handmade stationery and gifts brand. I sell a range of items from notebooks, and notepads, to faith journals, cards and prints. All giftable, beautiful and bespoke.

All products are created in house by me, from using the best quality materials that I can source.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

I find these types of questions hard. But without sounding cheesy I am proud to be a wife and mum. Can I say that? Before I became a Christian, I never really gave it much thought. I wanted to be a high-flying career woman and miss independent. To now be a wife and mum of 3 small people, I am genuinely proud of myself.

I do not have a biblical homegrown marriage to look up to, so to give my children that example (continually everyday) is an accomplishment. Motherhood also has its seasons that are tough and hard and sometimes even bleak. I keep going, to try my best to be the best mum for them.

Loosing sight of comparison knowing God made me their mummy for a reason – that is an accomplishment for me the not giving up even when I have wanted too.

When you’re having a bad day, what do you do to make yourself feel better?

If I say eat, will you judge me? haha! I tend to eat naughty food like sweeties and have a takeout. I wish I could be like I go for a run and clear my head, but reality is I genuinely scoff chocolate and sweets in my work studio, hehe.

Girl, same! What’s a great book you’ve read recently?

I am not the most avid reader in the world, I have always struggled with reading books - Which is why, when I became a Christian and fell in love with reading the Bible, I knew there was truth in God because only he could help me make sense of his word and want me to go deeper in an area that I naturally struggle with. I also prefer to read information/research types of things.

I am going back through Exodus

When are you happiest?

Relaxing on a Saturday afternoon, snuggled on the sofa with the kids playing around me while they have what they call a party aka play whilst having party food on the side…. OR when I am eating a really good meal especially if hubby has done a surprise date night meal – and we play one of our word games!

I am noticing a lot of my life revolves around food haha!

It’s all good, so did Jesus’ - food is a social, hospitable thing, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence all the Christian festivals are centred around food. In fact, a lot of them are called feasts! 🤣 Anyway, next question! Who inspires you?

A few different people:
My mum who made parenting look easy - She raised my sister and I alone. And now that I am a mum, I am in awe of the strength she had to do so.
My Nan – Knowing more of her story after she passed away just leaves me in awe of her courage and resilience. They both leave me thinking - wow!
Last but by no means least my husband for his continued daily sacrifice for our family.

Can you tell us 3 things you would bring to a desert island?

Will food already be supplied? Haha! This is hard BUT can I be smart and say my house airlifted to the desert island minus the laundry hehe! I am a home comforts girl at heart.

My bible anddd… a good worship album currently I have Maverick City and Elevation Worship’s new album on repeat!

I’ll have to check those out - not heard either yet. If you could ask God one question, what would it be?

I was thinking about this – I think I would say ‘thank you’ first before my question. I mean God knows every part of us, yet he continues to renew his mercies, continues to be gracious. It continually blows my mind just how good he is.

My cheeky question would be why don’t toddlers nap more than 30 minutes... hmmm hehe #askingforafriend

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Water off a duck’s back – I think it works in many situations. Some things you just need to let slide off your back.

Wisdom right there! Okay, on to a quick lightening round:

Tea or coffee? Coffee
Cake or pie? Cake
Pineapple on pizza? Yes
Winter or summer? Summer
City or country? City
Book or movie? Movie
Most used emoji? Laughing Face or Eye roll aha
Favourite day of the week? eek
What’s for dinner tonight? No Idea

Fab! Thank you so much for chatting to me! Where can people find you online?
