The 5 Best Christian Parenting podcasts

As a Christian mother of four young children, I always seek excellent Christian parenting resources. After all, until you become a parent, you don't have any experience of being a godly Christian parent. So we rely on the experiences of others and on all the experiences we've had up to that point that could give guidance in specific situations. Finding wisdom amongst the noise can be tricky, but in this day and age of technology, there is also no end of great resources to help disciple your children.

You can see my top Christian parenting books here, but today, I'll be rounding up my favourite Christian parenting podcasts. I walk a lot to help my mental health and keep my physical exercise up to par, and I always bring my headphones along with me. I enjoy listening to audiobooks, but I also have a selection of podcasts I subscribe to and listen to whenever they release a new episode. Amongst these are a short list of consistently good Christian Parenting Podcasts.

1. Family Discipleship Podcast.

The Family Discipleship Podcast is, without a doubt, my top Christian parenting podcast. I found it after listening to the Knowing Faith podcast, as they are "sister" podcasts, both Training the Church podcasts. You'll find gold nuggets in every episode of this podcast, which Cassie Bryant, Adam Griffin, and Chelsea Griffin host.

This season, they have run a series focussing on specific age groups, which I have found particularly helpful. With seven seasons under their belt, there is a vast and varied catalogue of episodes to listen to on topics ranging from Obedience, Social Media, Self-Control (an excellent episode)  to Vulnerability, Irritation, Compassion, and Shame.

They also regularly have guest episodes in which they get advice from Christians who have walked the path of discipling their children or who have books on the topic. Some of these have included Rebecca McLaughlan, Melissa Kruger, Tim Challies, and the authors of Risen Motherhood.

Some of my favourite episodes, though, are their "In the xxx home with …" finding out more about what life is really like in the home of Christian parents we look up to. If you're looking for a first episode to jump into, I loved "In the Wilkin Home with Jen Wilkin" and "In the Ortlund Home with Ray Ortlund".

2. Faith in Kids Podcast.

The Faith in Kids podcast is actually two podcasts combined—Faith in Kids and Faith in Parents. It's about helping families raise children in the Christian faith. The hosts don't give all the answers but aim to start the conversation with help from experts and other guests.

I loved their Faith in Kids: Glorious Series this summer, which focused on a "Summer of Sport" during the Paris Olympics. This series explores where glory can really be found with the help of some great sports celebrities. I also loved their Faith in Parents: Growing Up series, which talks about many different facets and aspects of Christian Human Ethics, such as "I am who God says I am," "I am male or female," and "I have a valuable body."

It's a great podcast that covers topics for the whole family, with some episodes for children and some for parents.

3. The Parenting For Faith Podcast.

I was introduced to the Parenting for Faith podcast by Lucy Rycroft, whom I follow on Instagram. She was interviewed in an episode about adding a new sibling to the family, which is discussed inclusively. As someone who has added to her family the more traditional way and with no fertility issues, it was fascinating and helpful to hear from people who have added a new sibling after a miscarriage or by adoption. This conversation helped me be more thoughtful and empathetic with people who have these stories.

Their season on curveballs was incredible. With episodes on Early life trauma (which is so interesting when it comes to adoption), Losing a child to cancer and disability were all heartbreaking but dealt with in a hope-filled way, and worth a listen if you're trying to work out where to start with listening to this podcast.

4. The Christian Parenting Podcast.

The Christian Parenting Podcast explores various themes through interviews with people like Gretchen Saffles, Andrew Peterson, Max Lucado, Melissa Kruger, and Ashlee Gadd, whom I will mention again shortly. It is a relatively new podcast, having started in 2023, but at the time of writing, it already has 92 episodes.

With host Steph Thurling, the Christian Parenting Podcast helps you set aside perfection and instead grow as the imperfect parents God made you to be. It reminds you that God gave you your children to steward, and this was not by accident. Each episode consists of a conversation on a specific topic, and there have been some exciting ones already on some valuable subjects.

5. Coffee + Crumbs Podcast.

This last recommendation is different from the others, as it is not explicitly directed at guiding people as they seek to parent their children in a Christ-like manner. As referred to above, the host and founder of Coffee + Crumbs, Ashlee Gadd, was one of the interviewees on the Christian Parenting Podcast!

As Coffee and Crumbs says each episode in the introduction, "motherhood is an art, not a science", and there is a lot of trial and error. But as Christians, the hosts give wisdom from their own and their guests' experiences, and I have gleaned from these over the years, making motherhood an experience I can thrive in, not just survive.

Coffee + Crumbs is a very practical, down-to-earth podcast, and the topics focused on aren't always parenting-focused, but they always leave me feeling safe, known, encouraged and loved. One of their recent episodes, Ask a Mentor Mum with Ruth Chou Simons, was one I'd recommend starting with; Motherhood and Technology was another fantastic episode last season, and What We're Learning About Friendship (parts 1 and 2) released in 2021 are my all-time favourite episodes.

Coffee + Crumbs is one of a small handful of podcasts that I will listen to an episode of as soon as it is released. They never disappoint. Some episodes are for subscribers only, and they are absolutely worth paying for. This format also enables them to have no sponsors or ads, which is refreshing.
