What to Write in a Christian Exam Card

What to Write in a Christian Exam Card

Why Send a Christian Exam Card?

Caring for the people in your life doesn’t just mean celebrating the outcomes of all their hard work. You also need to support them through the events that require them to work so hard in the first place. This is particularly the case when sending a card ahead of exam season

A lot of people send congratulations after the fact, but sending encouragement beforehand is so thoughtful and will give the recipient a little boost as they study and approach exam week. It’s a great way to show someone you care, remind them Jesus is with them, and say that no matter the outcome, God has got it. It’s also an opportunity to remind a young person of truth from scripture to reduce anxiety and bring some peace in the midst of what is often a stressful situation.

Practical Support in Paper Form

Sending a card is a practical way to support someone through their exams. Not everyone can help with revision, but anyone can encourage. A card becomes a tangible reminder they can keep on their desk during study and take into exams mentally.

If you can, add a little something inside the card. I have a list of flat things to include in a greeting card, and some of these would work perfectly in this situation. Another great option is to send some flowers in the post (I like Bloom & Wild) or include a gift card for a local coffee shop so they can study somewhere different and get a little treat or some ‘brain food’.

What to Write in a Christian Exam Card

Here are a few ideas to get you started…

  • Remind them of the peace that God gives and encourage them to bring any worries to Him in prayer. For example, Philippians 4 says, ‘do not be anxious about anything.’
  • Write something that says, ‘you’ve got this!’ and let them know you know they can do it because they have a great brain, they’ve worked hard, and you are confident in their ability.
  • Include something that focuses on truth over performance. Their identity is in Christ, who has overcome the world, not in the results of exams.
  • Tell them you are praying for them. If they don’t feel they have the capacity, you do, and you are speaking to God and interceding for them about this exam period. Mention specifics if you know about them. For example, ‘especially the French exam I know you are worried about’.
  • Remind them that Jesus is also interceding for them before the Father. More importantly, Jesus intercedes for believers, constantly presenting his finished sacrifice to the Father to secure their salvation. He defends believers against spiritual accusations, he provides grace for daily life, and he prays for their perseverance in faith. Wow! Way to put things into perspective!
  • Remind them they are not alone, that you are behind them, and that Jesus will be in that exam room with them.
  • Encourage them to keep on working hard and to not give up. It’s not fun, but the most worthwhile things are difficult, and there is a sense of achievement like nothing else when you’ve spent time and energy on something.
